The Wesley Community is seeking an Environmental Worker to assist with security duties Saturday and Sunday nights and Holidays, 4pm - midnight. Job Description:
The primary purpose of your position is to carry out the day-to-day custodial/security activities in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Director of Maintenance/Security, to provide and maintain a clean, safe environment for residents, visitors and employees.The security/custodian reports directly to Director of Maintenance/Security.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESA. Administrative Functions1. Know the premises thoroughly including location of fire alarm boxes, of telephones, emergency exits, light switches, fire stand pipe lines, fire hydrants, and hose reels, control switches of elevator motors, fuse/breaker boxes, power control switches, steam valves, and any other control devices relating to the machinery and operations within the premises, in case of emergency.2. Lock and check doors in a timely manner.3. Observe and investigate any unusual malfunctions of equipment, odors, noise, smoke or gas and report to supervisor.4. Monitor hallways, entrances and entire premises for unauthorized persons or wandering patients.5. Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting to the administrator as required.6. Submit accident/incident reports within twenty-four (24) hours after the occurrence of the accident/incident.7. File complaints/grievances with your supervisor.8. Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director and/or Executive Director.B. Staff Development1. Attend and participate in inservice educational classes and on-the-job training programs.2. Attend and participate in workshops, seminars, etc., as directed.C. Resident Rights1. Maintain confidentiality of resident information.2. Honor the residents' personal and property rights.3. Knock before entering a resident's room.D. Safety and Sanitation1. Ensure required security functions are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures.2. Ensure that security procedures are followed in all areas of the facility at all times.3. Monitor storage areas for security problems and report/correct such problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.4. Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to your supervisor immediately.E. Working Conditions1. Works in all areas, inside and outside of the facility.2. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.3. Is subject to frequent interruptions.4. Is involved with salespersons, vendors, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.5. Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.6. Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends or holidays when necessary, as well as in other positions temporarily when needed.8. Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.9. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day.10. May be exposed to inclement weather.11. May be subjected to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, conditions, etc. including the potential exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.V. QUALIFICATIONSA. Educational Requirements1. High School Graduate or equivalency preferred.B. Experience1. Experience in a related field preferred but not required.2. On the job training and orientation provided.C. Specific Requirements1. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.2. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.3. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.4. Must possess a basic knowledge of security procedures, regulations and current applicable laws, as well as procedures to follow during emergency conditions.5. Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.6. Must be knowledgeable of laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to hospital and nursing home security.7. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.8. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.9. Must be able to relate to information regarding a resident's condition.10. Must be neat in appearance, punctual and honest as well as comply with current dress code requirements.D. Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)1. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.2. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.3. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.4. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.5. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.7. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.8. Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move in excess of 50 pounds.9. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
